Leaving The Hunger Project.

Pass on a better future.

Like you, more and more people are thinking about their legacy. It’s not easy to talk about the end of life, but it can give you peace to reflect on what’s really important to you. What do you want to leave behind? What do you want to contribute to, even if you are no longer there?Everyone leaves something behind. The question is, what stays?

What do you really think is important?

A legacy to The Hunger Project is a beautiful way to contribute to future generations. With your support, women and men in Africa, South Asia and Latin America are themselves working on a future without hunger and poverty.

We do not bring food, but together we tackle the causes of hunger. By strengthening local leadership and allowing people to take their own steps, communities can build a future without hunger.

Your legacy does not therefore contribute to a temporary solution, but to change that will last generations.

If change comes from within, it remains. Even after we’re gone.

“The Hunger Project’s approach works!”

In August 2024 Geer Goudriaan had to say goodbye to her beloved Kees Bronke. For years they were at the helm of The Hunger Project in the Netherlands. Even after his death, Kees continues to make a bequest impact, feels self-evident. Kees and I knew immediately: The Hunger Project will be in our will.

The approach of The Hunger Project works. We’ve seen that on different trips across Africa. We are very enthusiastic about their approach and how they put people on the trail to end their own hunger. We are therefore pleased to make a contribution to The Hunger Project after our demise, and our children fully agree with that.

OUR PILLERS.

Why choose The Hunger Project?

At The Hunger Project, we’ve been working on a world without hunger for almost 50 years. We know that the end of hunger is about much more than food alone. It starts with people. Dreaming. With resilience. And self-reliance. That is why we invest in the power of people in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. On the way to the end of hunger for everyone.

Our proven effective approach consists of three pillars:

Women first
We train women in leadership, food security and entrepreneurship. By strengthening women, they themselves can improve their situation and transform their communities. This contributes to the self-reliance of women and their communities. Investing in women is the most effective way to fight hunger and achieve sustainable change.
People act themselves
We encourage communities to take action themselves for a better future. Through workshops and trainings we support people to develop their vision, to make concrete plans and to implement them with available resources. Through this approach we strengthen their ability to become self-reliant and shape their own future.
Smart collaboration with local authorities
We work with local authorities to improve basic services such as health and nutrition. This creates structural, sustainable changes that benefit communities and enable them to address their challenges independently.

What do we do with your contribution?

What you’re leaving is entirely up to you. Any amount, big or small, helps people in our programme countries to take steps towards a better future. We put gifts in places where they are most needed at that time. For example, your gift can end up in India, where we give female village council members leadership training to help their village advance. Or in Mozambique, where communities around the Zinave National Park fight poverty and protect nature. Or in Ethiopia, where together with residents we restore degraded areas that are affected by drought and by heavy rain, where fertile soil washes away.

Did you know that you can also contribute later?

Each new project of The Hunger Project focuses on a question: What does it take for this community to move forward without the Hunger Project? That question touches me. It assumes trust, independence and strength.

I recognize this method from my personal life and from my work. Giving people opportunities doesn’t mean taking over, but walking along and helping them to (re) discover their own possibilities.

I’ve been involved for years and follow the leadership program for village council members in India closely. It continues to give hope that women, wherever in the world, are able to create opportunities for themselves and their communities with the right support.

That is why it feels natural and good to include The Hunger Project in my will. My contribution to life is very modest. That is precisely why it feels valuable to have something to do with me later.

Changemaker Kamla.

Kamla Devi, India

My family asks me why I keep working so hard. I tell them I only want one thing: to leave something meaningful. You’ll be remembered for the work you do. What I’m reaching now is forever

Kamla Devi (65) learned to make smart use of government regulations by training The Hunger Project, with which she arranged numerous facilities for her village
