World Hunger Day 2025: A strong soil to build
Today is the World Hunger Day, an initiative of The Hunger Project, and we call attention to millions of people in Mozambique who are hungry every day.
One of the causes of hunger is the changing climate: extreme drought and heavy rainfall make it almost impossible for people to grow enough food. The harvest fails, incomes fall and food prices rise. Communities are entering a vicious circle of poverty and hunger. The good news? Anyone can learn to be climate-proof! That’s why The Hunger Project trains people in Mozambique to deal better with changing weather conditions. They learn, for example, climate-proof farming techniques, food storage and water storage. Thanks to training on savings and enterprise, they start their own business. This is how they build a sustainable future for themselves and their community.

Alzira blossoms the community garden.
During trainings of The Hunger Project, Alzira learned about climate-proof and seasonal agriculture. Her own vegetable garden grew so well that others asked her to also manage the community garden. Between the green beds full of sweet potato and cassava she says:
Here we test new ways to grow vegetables, to find out what works best.We now make jam or sauce, so that we can also eat vegetables if the harvest is disappointing due to the changing climate.”
